A typical home insurance policy rose to its highest ever level during the three months ending on September 30th this year, the latest AA British Insurance Premium Index has found, making it more important than ever to find the best quote possible. A steady rise in the cost of combined building and contents insurance, which began in 2009, led to the average quote standing at £205.55 - an increase of 5.7 per cent over the previous 12-month period. Simon Douglas, director of AA Insurance, said two severe winters that caused extensive property damage throughout the UK might be partly responsible for rising home insurance premiums. "Insurers are also concerned about more frequent severe weather events such flash floods, often in places with no flooding history; wind damage and even damage from extreme hailstorms, lightning strikes and tornadoes," he said. Meanwhile, the index also revealed that car insurance premiums fell by an average of £2, or 0.3 per cent, during the same three-month period. |
