'Home is where the heart is' for over-50s

It is likely that many home insurance customers over the age of 50 will not want to leave the home they are currently living in, results of a new survey have revealed.

Research conducted by Saga discovered that 89 per cent of over-50s regard their house as being more than just bricks and mortar, with over two-thirds living in their current property for over ten years.

Furthermore, 48 per cent said it is the place they would like to grow old in and 65 per cent enjoy the community feeling and knowing the neighbours in their area.

Alex Edmans, business development manager at Saga, said: "With a lifetime of fond memories from within their family homes they would not want to be forced to move for financial reasons."

Halifax home insurance recently carried out a study which revealed that many people do not feel safe in their neighborhood, as 64 per cent of respondents had concerns about their house being burgled.
