Homes need to be kept safe and secure all year round, the Association of British Insurers (ABI) has stressed.
Now the clocks have gone back and there are fewer daylight hours, spokesperson for the ABI Malcolm Tarling emphasised that burglars will have rich pickings of properties with inadequate security.
He acknowledged that during the summer months, it is particularly tempting to leave windows and doors open and despite this not being as much of a problem in the winter, people can be equally as lax.
"Good quality door locks and making sure you lock the door even if you are just popping out for a second are also important, and common sense," Mr Tarling explained.
It was recently found by Defaqto that purchasing the cheapest home insurance may not be the best option, particularly if it fails to cover standard features.
They may be offered as optional extras, which could prove costly if a claim has to be made. |
