Businesses that make money from making frequent delivery stops, such as florists or sandwich operators, can find it difficult to get appropriate van insurance, it has been revealed.
Many policies for small, commercial vans only cover three to five stops a day and for companies making more, the extra cover can send prices soaring, Adrian Flux Insurance says.
This is presenting a problem for those with urgent deliveries as many insurers claim that making a lot of stops throughout the day can be more dangerous than continuous driving.
Julie Carter, from Adrian Flux, said: "There's no evidence to us that the smaller business is a significantly greater risk when making multiple deliveries."
She added that other factors such as "the driver's experience, the make of van and type of business" are far more important.
Insurance is vital for small commercial vans as they can be at risk from thieves targeting them for their loads, Direct Line Insurance warned yesterday.
