It has been claimed that people who commit home or car insurance fraud could now be more likely get caught out than they used to be.
According to the Association of British Insurers (ABI), compared to five years ago insurance providers are now able to detect more cases of fraud.
This is because they are more aware of the tell tale signs that a customer may be lying to them.
Many also have more resources dedicated to tackling the problems such as sophisticated techniques and increased numbers of staff.
Malcolm Tarling, a spokesperson for the ABI, said the organisation is trying to "show that the industry is actually getting on top of this and we are actually trying to deter anyone out there who's thinking that it's easy to do, that it's not easy to do".
In order to save money during the recession, many Brits are making changes to their car insurance policies, figures published by Sainsbury's show.
