Going online to buy home insurance is one of the best ways to go about purchasing the cover, one website has claimed.

According to the Thrifty Scot, some insurance providers will give as much as 25 per cent off for online insurance purchases.

Using the internet can also mean the people find quotes from insurance firms they had not previously considered because that company does not have a presence in their local area.

The website states: "Experts recommend that you should request at least three of these quotes so that you can compare rates and get the best deal."

Quotes for insurance cover on the internet are free and people are under no obligation to make a purchase after an enquiry.

The Mirror recently recommended that people consider changing their home insurance rather than just renewing it as they could save money.
