Keep utilities functioning this winter

There are various steps that homeowners can take to ensure their utilities remain fully functioning during the winter months.

The Consumer Council for Water explained that a property's heating and water supply can often suffer when the weather takes a turn for the worse.

As a result, it called on homeowners to check that the inside stop valve is working, which is usually located under the kitchen sink, as this will quickly need to be located in the event of a burst pipe.

Furthermore, ensuring that pipes in cold, draughty areas are insulated is essential, although it is important not to use any insulating material under the water tank.

Dame Yve Buckland, chair of the Consumer Council for Water, said: "Prevention is certainly better than cure and much easier on the pocket.

"So time invested now following our simple advice could save you a whole load of hassle."ADNFCR-1789-ID-800781433-ADNFCR
