People should plan ahead and think carefully when buying a new motor, well before they start considering car insurance, it has been claimed.
According to Kitemark, drivers can look for a few simple things which will put them at an advantage and ensure they are getting a fair deal when purchasing a new vehicle.
They should look to see whether the dealer is a member of the motoring federation, practices good standards and has a strong reputation in the community, the company claims.
Quentin Willson, speaking on behalf of Kitemark, said: "It's about knowing if the product has been tested and if the operator cares about their reputation, standards, doing the right job and all that old fashioned stuff."
Research for the British Standards Industry product services found that for 54 per cent of people, the most important thing to look for is value for money.
