Lack of travel insurance is a slippery slope for skiers

Brits that are planning on jetting off for a skiing holiday this winter have been warned about the important of having travel insurance.

Insurance firm esure has said that over 1.8 million people are likely to hit the slopes this year and the credit crunch could mean holidaymakers try to make cut backs.

However, enthusiasts could find themselves having to fork out more if they have an accident with their skis or snowboards and are not properly covered.

Mike Pickard, Head of travel insurance at esure, said that all winter sports holidays "come with a certain element of risk".

"It's crucial to ensure you're fully covered if you have an accident on the slopes," he continued.

In a bid to save money it also seems as though many Britons are opting to go to cheaper resorts such as Scotland or Poland for their skiing trips this year.

From January 2009, travel insurance sold by agents will be regulated by the Financial Services Authority, Travel Weekly reported.
