Many holidaymakers are opting to make late vacation bookings, claims a travel company.
Travel Counsellors believes that many more people are choosing to leave their holiday plans to just four weeks before the date of departure in order to ensure they get a bargain and save money.
Figures from online firm Youtravel.com showed that late bookings peaked at more than 20 per cent as holidaymakers remain keen to get the best value holiday they can rather than not going away at all.
In particular, there has been strong demand for holidays in Turkey, Portugal, Greece and Tunisia.
Darren McCormick, head of aviation at Travel Counsellors, said: "Even in the current climate we are seeing that people are becoming more confident in their spending in general and we are definitely seeing sales pick up."
However, anyone opting to book a last-minute deal is advised not to forget to ensure they have the appropriate level of travel insurance.
