LifeSearch: What to look for from life insurance brokers

A company has recommended ways in which people can ensure they are getting quality cover from their life insurance broker.

LifeSearch suggests that customers should ask how the broker will help them or their family members to process a claim if one is made and if they would fight on their behalf if the insurer declines or denies it.

It is also advisable that a recording is kept by the broker of calls made between clients and insurance firms so that any disagreements can be proven, giving the customer protection.

People should look for any hidden benefits the life insurance broker offers when a policy is taken out with them and they should offer to write customer's life policies into a trust so that HM Revenue and Customs cannot hold back policy while Inheritance Tax bills are paid on the estate of the deceased.

Matt Morris, LifeSearch senior policy adviser said that as money becomes tight for people need to make sure people spend their finances wisely.

"One of the ways to do this when buying financial protection is to make sure you have picked a good company who is giving you value for money when buying protection," he added.

LifeSearch have also highlighted the importance of financial protection as a poll by YouGov showed that only 15 per cent of people would get by without difficulty if their financial circumstances changed.
