Lincoln MP tackles uninsured drivers

An MP in Lincoln has gone to great lengths to tackle the problem of uninsured drivers in the area and has been awarded a Road Safety Parliamentarian of the Month Award in recognition of his efforts.

Karl McCartney has campaigned for tougher penalties for uninsured drivers since learning that the average fine for such a motorist is only £200 - nearly four times less than the average cost of insurance.

The MP has lobbied for a higher fine to be put in place to deter people from the breaking law, in addition to writing a report detailing a ten point plan.

His recommendations include introducing an insurance sticker in every windscreen, tougher sentencing for drivers, and automatic disqualification for people caught driving uninsured for at least one year.

Mr McCartney commented: "For far too long, politicians have turned a blind eye towards the issue of dealing with uninsured drivers, even though it undermines confidence in the justice system and penalises the law-abiding."

All drivers in the UK should have car insurance to both protect themselves financially and others if an accident occurs.ADNFCR-1789-ID-801286386-ADNFCR
