London boroughs are 'safe as houses'

Those looking to purchase a new house and find cheap home insurance may be interested to find that some areas of London are among the safest in the UK.

Properties in Kensington and Chelsea have been revealed by Virgin Money home insurance research to be the safest in England and Wales.

This puts them ahead of homes in Dudley in the West Midlands and Poole in Dorset when it comes to security.

At the other end of the scale, people living in Doncaster, Nottingham and Sheffield may want to make sure their home insurance is up to date as these are the riskiest areas in the country.

Grant Bather, spokesman at Virgin Money, said: "Householders can take action to improve the safety of their houses with simple steps such as improving locks and installing burglar alarms as well as getting home insurance for peace of mind."

Norwich Union has recently discovered that many people are underinsuring their properties.
