New research reveals that two out of five Londoners do not have any home insurance protection.

The Association of British Insurers (ABI) is calling for London residents to make sure they do not let the current economic situation to have an impact on their decision to purchase home insurance cover.

A campaign is now being launched by ABI to highlight the vital need for home insurance among 750,000 people living within London in local or social housing.

Nick Starling, the ABI's director of general insurance, said: "Many low-income Londoners struggle to access basic financial products, such as contents insurance.

"This makes it difficult for them to plan for the future and leaves them at the mercy of unwelcome events, such as burglary."

Last week, the Times reminded homeowners to ensure they only employ quality tradesmen to carry out house repairs otherwise they could be forced to claim on their home insurance for the cost of rectifying botched jobs.
