People who do not declare any pre-existing health problems when applying for travel insurance could be playing a dangerous game, one expert has suggested.
Stewart Ricoh, general manager of travel insurance at Staysure.co.uk, pointed out that firms will not pay out if they find that a customer has been dishonest.
"Honesty is the best policy. More than 60 per cent of pensioners have declarable pre-existing medical conditions so make sure to tell your insurer," he explained.
The expert noted that some people will not be comfortable giving out such information over the phone, so some companies will offer a more discreet service if this is the case.
In a number of cases, travel insurance firms will have an online screening facility, Mr Ricoh added.
