More Than: Get home insurance as break-in figures rise

People may want to ensure that they have adequate home insurance as the amount of domestic burglaries in the UK is on the increase, it has been claimed.

According to More Than, there has been a rise of four per cent and therefore home insurance is vital, especially as finances are already stretched for many people.

Households without security measures are more likely to be at risk from a break-in along with those who have a young head of household or lone parents.

More Than stated: "The news that crime is on the increase comes just as families' finances are being stretched to the limit, so it's never been more important to make sure you do everything possible to safeguard your home."

Homeowners may also want to watch out for burst water pipes causing damage to their property in the freezing weather this winter as over £15 million worth of claims have been lodged following the problem, the AA reports.
