Motorcycle registrations pick up

Providers of cheap bike insurance in the UK will be revving up their engines at the latest news from the Motor Cycle Industry Association (MCI).

For while registrations of motorcycles, scooters and mopeds fell year-on-year in March, this represents a much more resilient performance than the 25 per cent slide witnessed in February.

Best of all was the performance of naked bikes, which saw an increase in registrations of 1.5 per cent, while supersports bikes also enjoyed a 0.8 per cent hike.

Honda was the most registered manufacturer, with the fuel-efficient Honda CBF 125 M proved to be particularly popular. However, the most in-demand bike according to the MCI figures was the Kawasaki ZX10 R Ninja.

Announcing the news, the MCI urged the government to include a break on vehicle excise duty for new powered two-wheelers in the Budget.

The MCI has been representing motorcycle suppliers for almost 100 years and seeks to promote the interests of the industry.
