Bikers may be interested to hear of a new helmet and leather bike insurance policy being offered by one cover provider.

According to Only Finance, Bikesure has announced that its new policy will give coverage of up to £1,000 on all leathers such as jackets, gloves and boots for £20 a year.

Although this will be subject to a £50 excess, the company claims that purchasing insurance for the items is vital as they can collectively be worth £500 or more.

Robert Balls, a spokesperson for Bikesure, said: We recognise that good quality helmet and leathers are an essential part of a motorcyclist's safety kit […] We want to make it affordable for bikers to ride safely."

Bikesure also recommended that riders spend between 15 and 20 per cent of the value of their bikes on protective clothing.

Following the government's announcement regarding the clampdown on uninsured drivers, the AA said it welcomed the idea of sending warning letters to drivers first.
