It has been announced that new regulations for insurance comparison websites are being developed.

The Comparison Consortium will be working with the Association of British Insurers to establish a code of practice for online comparison services.

Furthermore, an accreditation scheme for websites that adhere to its code of practice will be created to that better regulation and professionalism will be brought to the industry.
The Comparison Consortium was established by Moneyextra.com to promote greater co-operation between price comparison sites.

Richard Mason, acting head of the group, said that "while comparison websites have become indispensible, it's time they realised that customer decision-making doesn't solely revolve around price".

Those using price comparison sites to shop for home insurance were recently urged by Sainsbury's not to always choose the cheapest quote, but instead go for the option which provides the best cover.
