One car insurance provider has noted that no road users can be sure that they will ever run into trouble when driving, it has been asserted.
Catherine McGrath, head of current accounts at Lloyds TSB, stated that millions of people will get behind the wheel of a vehicle in the next few days to make the most of the UK's tourism offerings over the August bank holiday weekend.
As such, she recommended that people take precautions to ensure that they are prepared for any unforeseen events.
"Breakdown cover may not seem like a necessity, but our customer data shows that none of us are immune to car trouble," Ms McGrath added.
She made her comments after Lloyds TSB issued data indicating that 13 per cent of people do not have car breakdown insurance, which could mean that they risk a lengthy wait on the hard shoulder if they run into difficulties.
Earlier this month, AA Insurance suggested that if police are given the power to issue fixed-penalty notices for careless driving, then people's premiums could rise.
