Many older people are finding it difficult to live above the breadline, meaning they have little cash to put aside in savings accounts, it has emerged.
Research from Age UK found that almost half of elderly people are just getting by, while one in ten are really struggling with their personal finances.
Michelle Mitchell, Age UK's charity director, said: "At a time when so many people are struggling financially, it is unacceptable that vital benefits are failing to reach some of the poorest and most vulnerable older people."
She highlighted that people should have benefits paid directly into their current accounts automatically to help minimise the chances of them missing out on funds.
The Consumer Council for Water recently revealed that homeowners can receive support if they are struggling to pay their utilities bills, as many providers are willing to help by staggering contributions. |
