Online tyre-buying 'may result in van insurance claims'

Motorists who shop for their van tyres online may be running the risk of making a claim on their van insurance policy.

This is because, according to TyreSafe, many people are not choosing the correct tyres for their vehicle.

The company claims that motorists often select a product with a lower speed symbol than that which is recommended for their car or van.

Stuart Jackson, chairman of TyreSafe, said: "Driving on tyres with a lower speed symbol than recommended may seriously compromise vehicle handling, putting the driver and other road users at risk."

Buying tyres online is becoming an increasingly popular option as it allows people to instantly compare prices, collect loyalty points and make use of multiple tyre fitting centres around the UK.

In other van news, the Citroen Berlingo has claimed a prestigious award thanks to a new anti-theft device – which may help to reduce the risk of making a van insurance claim.
