Over-50s 'concerned about home security'

Home insurance customers over the age of 50 are increasingly concerned about the security of their property, new figures indicate.

Older Home insurance customers are more anxious about the security of their property, according to new data.

A survey published by RIAS indicates that almost a quarter (23 per cent) of people over the age of 50 are more concerned about being broken into than they were 12 months ago.

Commenting on the study, Janet Connor, managing director of RIAS, states: "It is concerning that one in four over-50s are anxious about the threat of being burgled."

The Home insurance provider offers a number of hints and tips on how to enhance a property's security credentials, including the installation of mortice deadlocks and key-operated window locks, as well as multi-locking systems on UPVC patio doors.

In recent days, Andrew Goodsell, executive chairman of the Saga Group, recommended that older people welcoming their children back into their familial home for an extended period of time should take their Home insurance premiums into consideration.
