Retired Brits would prefer to take out home insurance on a property in the country than a city dwelling, it has been revealed.
Figures released by Saga show that 25 per cent of people over the age of 50 think places such as Devon, Dorset and Cornwall are the best places to live during retirement.
This is due to the easy access to the countryside and the sea, the reseach found.
Meanwhile, those living in Greater Manchester of Greater London were the most discontented, with the cost of living and the high crime rate in these areas putting many people off.
Emma Soames, editor of Saga magazine, explained that the group's research "shows that many over 50s are very aware they could be living on a restricted budget in their retirement years and this is an important factor when choosing where to live in later life".
The AA recently encouraged homeowners to ensure their home insurance policy is up to date if they are considering doing any DIY work.
