Taking out pet insurance will give owners the peace of mind they need should the animal suddenly fall ill, an expert has said.
Having a pet is a very large financial and emotional commitment, noted Hanne Grice, dog expert and author, so people need to do what they can to protect their investment.
"You have got the financial commitment of the purchase, then providing the food, bedding, toys and vaccinations to ensure that it stays fit and well," she explained.
Ms Grice emphasised that there is also an emotional attachment between the pet and owner, so it is reassuring to know that a company is there should something go wrong.
Sainsbury's Finance recently revealed that the average claim for a Dachshund was around £543 in 2009, whilst the average claim across all pedigree dogs was around £337.
The lowest average claim of any breed covered by the Sainsbury's Pet Insurance was around £175. |
