People in the UK may be finding it harder to purchase a house and secure a home insurance policy, it has been claimed.
In the opinion of DTZ Residential, many people looking to buy a property are finding it difficult to negotiate the bargains they may have done in the past.
This is because there is a shortage of property for sale as a result of the recession, mortgage availability and buyer-seller confidence, the firm continues.
Mike Bickerton, director at DTZ Residential, explained that buyers "wanting to strike a hard bargain are finding that as a result of the shortage of property they are not able to secure quite the size of discount that may have been possible a few months ago".
Recent figures from Rightmove support these claims, as they showed that in May 2009, property sellers increased their average asking prices by 2.4 per cent.
