'Protect garden gnomes' with home insurance

Thieves can often be tempted by the items found in a garden so it is essential for them to be covered by a home insurance policy, it has been claimed.

According to cheap home insurance provider More Than, people can decrease the chances of having their favourite gnome stolen by putting fences and gates around their property.

They should also keep a lock on any garden sheds – particularly if they contain ladders – as these could help thieves to enter the house.

Other useful tips include keeping hedges tidy so that criminals have nowhere to hide and considering a gravel driveway which will mean that any intruders can be heard as they approach.

Last month, Marks and Spencer revealed that even though the average shed contains £888 worth of property, 24 per cent of people admit that they do not take steps to keep them secure.
