Provider launches breakdown insurance

Leading insurance provider Saga is to offer a new breakdown insurance policy.

The new product will be available in addition to the company's standard breakdown service and will be able to cover the cost of repairs up to the value of £500 if the policy holder breaks down and is unable to finish their journey.

Saga provides cover only to motorists aged over 50 years in order to ensure that overall costs remain low for its customers because they do not subsidise young less experienced drivers.

Andrew Goodsell, chief executive of Saga Group, said: "Whilst the over-50s tend to take better care of their cars, breakdowns can unfortunately happen to all of us and often at the most inconvenient time."

He added that the new breakdown insurance policy will help to soften the blow of breaking down and then having to deal with a large unexpected repair bill.

Last week, motorists were warned by Kwik-Fit not to try to save money by reducing their spending on car maintenance as it is likely to lead to large costly bills and possible an expensive accident.
