Travellers are being reminded to make sure they are well-prepared for their overseas holidays this year.
The UK Cards Association and the Association of British Travel Agents have published new advice for card holders planning abroad this summer. In particular, the information is designed to ensure that consumers do not return home to hidden fees and unnecessary costs.
Addy Frederick, PR assistant at Apacs, the UK payments association, explained that using cards abroad can be "one of the safest ways to pay" for consumers.
She added: "We do advise them to make sure when they go abroad they have their card issuer's address and their card issuer's emergency phone number.
"One thing about plastic cards is that they offer you an extra layer of protection."
According to the UK Cards Association, last year Brits used their plastic cards for £27.8 billion worth of overseas transactions - just over ten per more than in 2007.
Taking out valid travel insurance can also help to cover any potential loss as well as ensuing easier access to medical treatment.
