Holidaymakers have been advised that purchasing travel insurance can offer "peace of mind" when booking a relaxing getaway.

According to budget flight airline Ryanair, whether people are relaxing on a sunny beach in the Mediterranean or hitting the Alps for a spot of skiing, travel insurance is an essential purchase.

The company reminds people that cover can protect them against any potential problems such as lost luggage, flight cancellations and any medical treatment which is required.

Sinead Finn, a spokesperson for Ryanair, said: "By purchasing the right level of cover, holidaymakers can enjoy their holiday and can count on insurance experts to take care of the rest."

The company added that changes to the way it sells travel insurance mean passengers must now decide whether to make the purchase during the flight-booking process.

Recently, it was announced that Brits visiting the Channel Islands can no longer get some of their medical treatments free if they require them while on holiday.
