Many parents could see the long school holidays leading to a claim on their home insurance, a provider has claimed.
Research from Swinton discovered that the number of home insurance claims rose during last year's summer holidays as children playing around the home led to incidents of accidental damage.
Therefore, parents are being advised to make sure their current home insurance policy provides cover against possible accidents such as broken windows or damage to carpets and sofas.
Steve Chelton, insurer development manager at Swinton, said: "The summer holidays is a long period of time to keep children entertained. School holidays dramatically increase the risk of an accident in the home and we would urge parents to check their home insurance."
Swinton also stressed the need for homeowners to ensure they do not leave windows or doors open when away from their homes or they could invalidate their home insurance policies.
Last month, the Elmbridge Guardian urged local residents to take steps against garden thieves after a rise in items being stolen from properties across the borough during the nice weather.
