"Smarter driving techniques" such as keeping to the speed limit can not only help to cut the cost of car insurance, but could also help to save money in other ways, it has been claimed.
According to Tim Anderson, smarter driving expert from the Energy Saving Trust, fuel expenses can be reduced with some simple changes such as keeping tyres fully inflated, driving steadily and changing gear at certain times.
Similarly, it is a good idea to keep vehicles free from clutter by giving them "a good spring clean".
Mr Anderson continued by saying: "What our research found was when people actually were told about this almost 70 per cent were really keen to get their cars cleared out so they can get on with saving money in terms of their fuel."
Research carried out for the Department of Transport revealed that 12 per of respondents can't remember the last time they cleared out their car boot.
