Snow storms 'highlight the need for home insurance'

With the UK experiencing the most severe snow storms in the country for 18 years, property owners have been advised that now is not the time to be without home insurance.

The Post Office states that heavy rain now means there are over 100 flood warnings in place and many houses are at risk from the adverse weather.

As a result, people should check what is covered by their home insurance policy and check their contents limit so that they can be safe in the knowledge that all their valuables are protected.

The Post Office explained that people "may find expensive artwork and valuables are not included if they exceed the value stated in your policy".

Issuing further advice, the company said: "As well as making sure you have the right level of cover, you can also take simple precautions that can limit weather damage."

Sainsbury's Finance recently revealed that many Brits are now taking out loans to pay for home improvements rather than buying a new house.
