A warning has been given to students about what to do with their car insurance policy if they plan on taking their vehicle to university with them this year.
Defaqto say that insurance firms must be told about where the car will be parked, for example in a garage or on the street, as this can affect the price of an insurance policy.
If this is not done the insurer can refuse to deal with any claims that are made on that policy.
It is also important that the DVLA is informed of any changes of address as they will need to send car tax reminders.
Mike Powell, principal consultant of Defaqto, said: "Amending your vehicle registration document should not only be done because it's required by law, but also from a practical point of view."
Legal and General recently offered security advice for students so that they don't have to claim on their insurance policies. Locking doors and removing expensive items from outside view are just two of the tips given.
