Thousands of teenagers will head off on holiday this year without their parents and without travel insurance - according to new research.
A study by Swiftcover revealed that as many as 100,000 teens could travel without protection.
The site's marketing manager Tina Shortle said that although parent-free holidays could be a great experience, travelling without insurance could be a costly mistake.
"Because of their age and new found freedom, fledgling holiday makers can be one of the most at risk groups. We are encouraging teens to be prepared and stay safe so their holiday can be one to remember for all the right reasons," she commented.
In order to avoid accidents and stay safe this summer, teens are advised to avoid drinking too much alcohol, steer clear of dangerous sporting activities and abide by the law.
Teenage holidaymakers are also advised to pack first aid essentials such as plasters, laxatives and re-hydration solutions.
Jacqui Jedrzejewski of NHS Direct also suggests that Britons avoid drinking tap water when abroad.
