Consumers are being encouraged to head to their computers and go online if they want to save themselves some money and get a cheap home insurance policy.

Tesco home insurance has announced it will be giving new customers a 45 per cent discount for their first year when they take out either Value, Standard, or Finest cover from the company.

Interested parties have until 27th May to take advantage of the offer and they can apply for a quote by going online and heading to Tesco's website.

Jim Bruce, head of Tesco home insurance, said: "We are aware of the strain on people's finances at the moment. This offer could help reduce one of the necessary living costs."

To avoid invalidating their home insurance policy, people have been advised by Sainsbury's to follow relevant compliance procedures when carrying out DIY tasks such as electrical work in their kitchens.
