Tesco has warned that people should take care to ensure their home insurance policies are up to date as Halloween approaches.
Homeowners should also check that their policy will cover then in case anything such as plant pots get damaged by trick or treaters going too far.
Jim Bruce, head of Tesco home insurance said that although Halloween "can be a fun time of year", some people can get carried away and "if you get 'tricked' rather than 'treated', it's good to know that any serious damage done by others to your property is covered".
Tesco says that on October 31st 2007 there were 150 per cent more claims made of policies than any other day during that month.
Locking statues, plant pots and furniture out of the way in a shed or garage is one way to help prevent loss or damage of possessions.
Last week, Cheshire Building Society warned that Bonfire Night is another occasion when home insurance policies need to be up to date to provide cover in case of any accidents.
