A blockade of airports in Thailand has highlighted the need for a good travel insurance policy that provides adequate cover.
Many Australians are currently caught up in anti-government demonstrations in Bangkok and they have been advised to check their insurance policies before running up too many expenses.
This is because every policy is different and many do not provide cover for cases of civil unrest, consumer group Choice has stated.
Paul Giles, a spokesman for the company, advised people to "talk to your insurer while you're over there".
"No two travel insurance products are the same ... some people may well be covered, others may not," he added.
In related news, many Britons are now choosing to save money on expenses such as travel insurance by swapping their summer holidays abroad with camping and caravanning trips, the Association of British Travel Agents claims.
