Training 'could reduce bike insurance claims'

Extra training could improve safety for many riders, claims the Driving Standards Agency (DSA).

Comments from the organisation suggest that the total number of bike accidents and therefore bike insurance claims could be reduced if more bikers enrol on the Enhanced Rider Scheme.

The DSA has launched an online campaign designed to boost the number of riders thinking of taking the courses to help improve road safety and sharpen their riding skills. The courses are being promoted on a number of sites such as Twitter, YouTube and Facebook.

Trevor Wedge, director for safer driving, explained that motorcyclists currently account for 20 per cent of all road fatalities and serious injuries on UK roads.

He added: "This is a terrible statistic, but we believe that further training can help to reduce this casualty rate by giving riders more knowledge."

bike insurance provider Swinton recently stressed that anyone planning to test drive a new model should ensure they have the correct bike insurance policy in place before taking to the road.
