Travel insurance customers 'missing out on currency savings'

When it comes to changing currency and taking out travel insurance, Britons are the first to declare "every penny counts", it has been claimed.

However, many are not practicing what they preach and are missing out on savings by not using pre-paid currency cards, according to FairFX.com.

It has been discovered that 98 per cent of holidaymakers do not use pre-paid currency cards, with two-thirds preferring to spend foreign money they take abroad.

A further 29 per cent choose to withdraw currency from a cashpoint when they arrive at their destination.

Stephen Heath, chief executive of FairFX.com, said: "Two-thirds of people might say every penny counts, but then don't actually ensure they have the right tools to make it happen."

Last week, Tesco Personal Finance discovered that 34 per cent of holidaymakers are intending to cut back on their spending when they go abroad this year.
