Holidaymakers who go away without taking out travel insurance could end up facing official action, they have been warned.
According to InsureandGo, if an uninsured traveller causes injury to another person and the victim cannot work, modern litigation means that the responsible party may be taken to court.
Perry Wilson, founder of InsureandGo, said: "The big thing is personal accident. It's not just you.
"People just don't understand that. They haven't got any insurance and you can be liable for anything."
He especially highlighted the number of incidents involving people who go on skiing holidays and then get drunk before taking to the slopes.
A recent survey by Aldi Travel revealed that five per cent of people go on holiday without travel insurance to save money.
Furthermore, 60 per cent said that getting value for money is the most important factor of their break.
