The snow may have finally subsided, but Brits are still paying the price for a particularly harsh winter, it has been said.
Both TyreSafe and Kwik-Fit have identified that many motorists are finding problems with their tyres following the spell of bad weather, suggesting a comprehensive car insurance policy should be high on their agendas.
Figures from the latter show that 28 per cent of motorists have experienced a puncture or flat tyre at some point over the past 12 months.
Those in London have generally been the worst affected, it identified, while people in the East Midlands have experienced fewer difficulties.
Customer services director at Kwik-Fit David White said: "Our research shows just how many drivers are inconvenienced by punctures or tyre damage every year.
"Fortunately, in many instances these don't require a new tyre but can be simply and quickly repaired."
Failing to get tyres repaired or replaced can prove fatal, TyreSafe warned, with an increasing number of people seemingly passing up the opportunity to get their hands on new rubber.
It discovered that over the course of the past year, there has been more than a ten per cent increase in the amount of motorists failing to replace their tyres.
Stuart Jackson, chairman of the organisation, commented: "If part-worn tyres are bought from an unreliable source or do not meet the required standards, drivers could be placing themselves and other road users in significant danger."
He stressed that although the financial pressures that motorists are facing are understandable, safety should be the key for any driver.
"The visual inspections required to sell part worn tyres may not identify these internal structural problems and consequently divers may be sold a product which is essentially not fit for purpose," Mr Jackson added. |
