New figures show that UK bike insurance customers are more likely to travel overseas on holiday when compared to their other European counterparts.
Statistics from the Motorcycle Industry Association (MCIA) revealed that a total of 100,000 British bikers travel across the English Channel each year, but just 23,000 opt to travel to the UK.
This means that while UK bikers are more willing to overseas road trips, many British-based businesses could be missing out on crucial income and opportunities.
Spokesperson Sheila Rainger explained: "If we could attract the same number of bikers to the UK as leave the UK for holidays the industry could potentially generate over £30 million in income for every week they spent on holiday in the UK."
The research also discovered that around 25 per cent of British riders use motorcycles as their preferred mode of transport for enjoying days out across the country.
It is estimated that the UK tourism industry benefits from bikers spending around £400 million each year.
Many bike insurance customers could be tempted by a forthcoming event at the NEC this November, which will showcase a wide range of new and vintage motorcycles.
