As many as 30.7 million overseas tourists could be taking out travel insurance to holiday in the UK next year, if new statistics are to be believed. Throughout 2012, they will collectively spend £17.6 billion, VisitBritain revealed, as many of them hope to join in events such as the Olympic Games and the Queen's Diamond Jubilee. "We are currently on track to see a record number of holiday visits to the UK this year, which suggests that our appeal as a destination remains strong," commented the chief executive of VisitBritain, Sandie Dawe. She emphasised that Brazil, China, India and Russia are among the emerging markets supplying tourists to the UK, with many of them visiting the country for the first time in 2012. Every effort will be made from a marketing perspective to exploit the UK's centre stage position in the New Year, the expert added. |
