Slough has 49.1 per cent more traffic accidents than the national average, a new study has revealed.

According to Endsleigh Insurance Services, the Berkshire town has the worst accident record in the UK based on the number of car insurance claims from the region, the Telegraph reports.

Ilford in London was the second biggest accident hotspot with 44 per cent more claims than the national average followed by Birmingham (33.1 per cent), Bradford (27.8 per cent), London (24 per cent) and Burnley (19.9 per cent).

Plymouth (17.2 per cent), Stockport (14.4 per cent), Manchester (13.1 per cent) and Milton Keynes (12.2 per cent) constituted the rest of the top ten.

Rhiannon Davies, a spokeswoman for Endsleigh, commented: "Our report highlights that some towns and cities represent a greater risk for motorists than others.

"However, it is important that motorists throughout the country are extra vigilant at this time of year."

The warnings follow claims by Car Parts Direct that motorists are more likely to suffer a breakdown over Christmas as drivers neglect to take their vehicles in to be serviced.
