'Use approved locks'

Home insurance customers have been advised to take adequate measure in order to ensure the safety of their homes.

The British Insurance Brokers' Association (BIBA) has suggested that homeowners should opt for industry-approved locks and an alarm system so as to deter potential burglars from targeting their homes.

Graeme Trudgill, technical and corporate affairs executive at BIBA, further added that it was important for people to have these devices fitted by a professional so as to minimise the chances of any mistakes.

His comments come off the back of recent research made public by Mintel, which found that less that 50 per cent of homeowners have installed extra door and window locks.

It was also found that only three quarters of the homeowners questioned took extra care to lock up their property when they are going out.

Safety devices such as external security lights and door chains were found to be present in only 34 per cent of households.ADNFCR-1789-ID-800135818-ADNFCR
