Anyone planning to drive on rural British roads this summer has been warned to taker care and to make sure they have a good car insurance deal in place.
Government statistics have suggested that drivers are three times as likely to be involved in a fatal car accident in the countryside than in the city and with this in mind the NFU Mutual is keen to see motorists familiarise themselves with any potential dangers on rural roads. The NFU Mutual provides car insurance to rural drivers and has noted that holidaymakers and the fact that harvests are being collected means that the summer is a particularly dangerous time to be on countryside roads.
"Satnav users continue to follow the gadget's instructions even when their eyes tell them they are heading up a farm track," said Ian Jewitt, of NFU Mutual Risk Management Services.
"This may account for some of the reports of vehicles stuck in fields and deep fords."
Meanwhile, a report from Insurance recently suggested that British consumers can help to beat the credit crunch by seeking out cheap car insurance deals via the internet.
