There has been a notable rise in the number of people making water-related claims on their home insurance policies, one expert has said.
Graeme Trudgill, head of corporate affairs at the British Insurance Brokers' Association, emphasised that this increase has been witnessed over the past two or three months.
"There has been lots of claims due to this very hard winter that we've had. They are the leading concern for home insurance providers at the moment," he explained.
Mr Trudgill highlighted that many pipes become frozen, which leads to seals being broken and water escaping the property, causing damage in the process.
He said that although this is not posing a security issue for homeowners, it is still causing them to make claims on home insurance policies.
The Met Office recently revealed that last year was the second-warmest on record, even in light of the freezing temperatures seen towards the end of 2010. |
