Motorists may wish to ensure that their car or bike insurance is up to date following advice issued by the AA.
According to the organisation, driving could be particularly hazardous this spring due to the damage caused to roads over the winter.
The AA has stated that the icy weather which hit the UK at the beginning of 2009 caused a 40 per cent increase in road damage.
This saw the company's pothole count rose to 1.5 million which could mean that drivers need to be extra cautious when travelling along unfamiliar roads as hitting a pothole at speed can have "devastating consequences".
Mike McMillan of BLD said: "Fewer than 20 per cent of all motorcycle accidents that involve another party are wholly, or partly, the motorcyclist's fault so it is vital that all road users take extra care - especially in heavy traffic."
The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders has recently revealed that car production is declining in the UK.
