Depression Travel Insurance
Many thousands of people suffer from depression for many different reasons and in different circumstances. However, not everybody knows that depression, whether mild or severe, is one of the mental illnesses that must be declared when taking out travel insurance. Although not a physical condition, insurers are very strict that all pre-existing physical and mental conditions are declared before you travel. If you end up making a claim for medical treatment abroad and havent declared all of your medical conditions then your insurance company may not pay and you could be liable for any costs incurred.
For some people, travelling could even exacerbate their depression. While going on holiday is enjoyable, being away from home can sometimes trigger your mental health issues in a way you hadnt anticipated. If you are worried about travelling then it can be a good idea to see your doctor before you go. Getting a certificate to prove that you are well enough to travel could also help you when taking out travel insurance.
It can also be a good idea to stock up on your medication before you leave and if you feel like the trip may be a worry for you then think about getting extra support from your medical specialist before you travel. Bear in mind that some other countries don’t have mental health care as developed as we have in the UK, so preparation can be key.
